Exotic Fruits

Mood: In the mood to go swimming
Currently listening to: Change - Sean Kingston

We've all seen the regular fruits that are sold in the supermarkets: apples, bananas, oranges, and so on. In Asia, there are a wide variety of fruits - many of them are not readily available in the United States. These pictures were taken last summer while on vacation in Singapore and Malaysia. Take a look.

These are mini limes that are still growing.

This is a dragonfruit. The texture is similar to a kiwi and the inside is white with lots of little black seeds. I've only eaten it once in my life, and it wasn't particularly pleasing... it's very bland and almost has no taste. At least it looks cool.

So this weird looking fruit is called Custard Apple. I took this picture outside of my Grandma's house in Malaysia. I actually haven't eaten this fruit yet, but according to my parents, it's very sweet.

Random Fact #3: I'm going on an east coast tour next week!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited! They'll take us to New York, Washington D.C, Hershey's, Niagara Falls, Harvard, MIT, and more! Count on tons and tons of pictures.

JA Business Week Camp
Saturday, June 19, 2010

So I haven't updated in a while because for the past week, I have been at camp!! I went to the JA Business Week camp hosted by Junior Achievement and underwritten by OppenheimerFunds. The main objective of the camp was to create a new smoothie for Jamba Juice with a company(team). Each company was pre-chosen before the camp started. I was put into Company D. The winning smoothie will be sold at all Colorado Jamba Juice locations during the month of September. Throughout the week, there was multiple seminars about different aspects of the business world such as ethics, etiquette, leadership, and presentation skills. There were a few hours alloted everyday to allow each company to get together and work on their marketing campaign.

The campaign included:
1. Creating a brand new smoothie for Jamba Juice
2. Naming the smoothie
3. Creating a POS (point-of-sale) advertisement that has a Back-to-School theme
4. Additional advertisements that supported the main marketing campaign
5. Write a written summary of your marketing campaign

I learned SO much at this camp! If I wrote down everything I learned, I'm pretty sure this blog post would be extremely long. Everyday was full of something interesting to learn. The business world involves excellent communication skills and extensive research to make the best product possible. In my company, we created a smoothie named Tropical Study Buddy. It contains lime, pineapple, peach, strawberry, and mango. We had to go to a Jamba Juice store to actually test out the recipe we created. We also used that time to collect feedback about our smoothie flavor from our general manager, Jeff. I learned that the amount of time spent with the executives and high-ranking officials of a company is SO VALUABLE! Our company explained our POS to the Jamba Juice district manager, Pam Kidd, and her feedback helped us better our marketing campaign and presentation a ton.

Communication was so important. It helps makes a team function well together or it breaks a team down. It also helps to convey the information as clearly as possible to the judges and audience. Our presentation was yesterday and all 13 companies presented to a panel of judges. The panel consisted of Jamba Juice executives as well as representatives from certain sponsors of JA Business Week.

But... we still had to compete against 12 other teams. So how did Company D place?

1st place!!!!!!!! That means you will see Company D's
Tropical Study Buddy smoothie in all Colorado Jamba Juice stores during September. Come and try it out! You won't regret it!

Jamba Juice and Slip n' Slide
Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Mood: annoyed
Currently listening to: This Dance - Five for Fighting

Summer calls for Jamba Juice and Slip n' Slides. Jamba Juice is like heaven in your mouth on a day that is 100°F! Slip n' Slides gives you bruised knees, but that is overshadowed by the amount of fun it gives :). When you can't go to the pool or to Waterworld, a slip n' slide is the next best thing. A summer wouldn't be complete without those two things. Picture time!

Five Fruit Frenzy from Jamba Juice - YUM!

My little neighbor on the slip n' slide.

SPLASH! It took a few tries to get the splashes on camera.

My friend Erica near the Slip n' Slide. Such a candid shot - unplanned, spontaneous, and not posed. This is probably my most favorite picture I have ever taken. I love the effect of the water from the slip n' slide. It frames Erica perfectly.

Random Fact #2: I love water fights. I realized that cups work extremely well when dumping water onto people.
